Hope everyone is staying safe during this crazy time! For today’s post I want to highlight some simple tips that may help you feel better.
Drink Plenty of Water
This tip may seem painfully obvious, but is very important to help you feel better. If you’re like me, sometimes I get distracted during the day with schoolwork or other things, and simply forget to drink. Staying hydrated is an easy and effective way to help your muscles heal and stay strong. Whenever I do not drink enough water during the day, I definitely notice that the symptoms of my Cerebral Palsy worsen, so making sure that you drink plenty of water is an easy and effective way for you to help your body keep feeling well! According to the Mayo Clinic, it is recommended that a person drinks eight cups of water a day.
Nighttime Stretching
Every night before I go to sleep, I do a nightly stretching routine to help my body stay loose. For my routine, I do a wall stretch for both of my arms, which helps stretch my shoulder and lat muscles. I then do a few cobra yoga positions where I lay down on my stomach and rest on my elbows. This is an effective way to strengthen your back, bicep, and tricep muscles. Finally, I do a twist to both sides to loosen up my trunk and shoulders. Whenever you can strengthen your muscles, it will help them from getting as tight. I feel like this routine helps put my body back together after the day, and sets me up to wake up feeling good in the morning! Ask your doctor or physical therapist for any recommendations for other nighttime stretching exercises.
Meditation
I’ve covered this in a few of my previous posts, but meditation at night has significantly helped me. I have anxiety, and it has been worse since the start of the pandemic. Every night before I go to sleep, I do a quick ten minute meditation that helps me sleep at night. There are numerous guided meditation exercises on YouTube that are extremely helpful and simple to follow! I have a few helpful videos embedded into my post about meditation for you to check out!
Hope these simple tips help you better manage your body during this unpredictable time!
