Fitness on Wheels: Quarantine Edition

If you’re like me, you haven’t been able to have physical therapy for months due to COVID-19. While this time hectic for everyone, here are a few simple tips that may help maintain your strength and loose muscles during these uncertain times.

Meditation

During this time, my anxiety has skyrocketed due to everything that has happened in the world. One thing that has definitely helped me cope with the day- to- day stress is a simple ten minute meditation before bed. There are many meditation videos on YouTube that will help you practice guided deep breathing and relaxation techniques. This has significantly helped me to fall asleep faster and not wake up as often during the night. While I still am dealing with elevated anxiety levels during this time, meditation has definitely helped me fall asleep faster at night. I have posted several helpful meditation videos in a previous post, so be sure to check it out!

Routine

Something that has helped me cope with the stress of this pandemic is keeping to my routine daily. This allows me to know exactly what my day will look like, which helps limit my stress levels. Also, keeping to a routine will help your body to get the appropriate amount of rest it needs to stay healthy. I usually attempt to wake up and go to sleep around the same time everyday. I have definitely noticed that I have more energy and less spasticity in my muscles since I have started doing this.

Workout

While you may not be able to do your traditional weekly physical therapy sessions due to social distancing and COVID-19, you can still practice a workout program at home. There are many simple exercises such as yoga or simply going for a walk around your house that will help keep your muscles stay strong and loose. I have personally been dedicated to working out twice a day to keep my body as strong as possible. For some easy to do home workouts, be sure to check out some of my previous posts!

Stay Positive!

For me this has been the hardest one to do during these hectic and stressful times. While it is definitely good to be realistic about what is going on in the world and your personal life, it is important to try to have a positive attitude. This will honestly help your body feel better and your mind less stressed. I highly recommend being willing to talk to family and friends about how you are feeling, because it will ultimately help you feel more relaxed about your situation, even if it’s not ideal at the moment.

I hope these simple tips will help you cope with the stress and craziness of the world we currently live in! Feel free to comment any additional ideas that you may have been doing to help you during this difficult COVID-19 time. Stay safe and be healthy!
